Creative Communities is Villages in Action's Participation and Community Development Project.
Creative Communities aims to set up rural-based, arts workshop programmes for young people aged 14 - 25. Workshops are available in a wide range of artforms including photography, video, drama, dance, animation, music, d.j. digital art, creative writing and a plethora of visual arts options including textiles, puppets, sculpture, carnival and more. In fact we are open to any suggestions of what the projects might be.
We ask for a commitment from participants of around £4 per head, per project, depending on how many artist sessions you book, and all we really need to get going is a group of interested young people who would like to be involved in setting up their own arts project and who have a space where workshops can take place. If you are a group of young people who want to set up your own Creative Community project then contact Kate - kate@villagesinaction.co.uk - and set up a date for Kate to come and run your free introductory digital art workshop.
Winter Warmers
Now that we are all feeling the icy effects of Winter what better way to spend time in the Winter months than by getting involved and inspired by an arts project on your doorstep. The Creative Communities project is always happy to help young people over the age of 14 get exciting projects off the ground in their villages.
The Devon Young Farmers have recently successfully completed a dvd about what they do as a group with the help of a local film maker and young people in Honiton have been taking part in silk screen printing, animation, digital art, felt making and recycled textile art, as part of the young people's art group based at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery.
Projects coming up in the next few months include a break and street dance project with young people in Bere Alston, a t.shirt design project in Horrabridge and a video project in Princetown. So, a lot of things happening in the West of the County. Kate is currently working to set up a young person's photography project in Crediton and is interested in hearing from people based in the East and Middle of Devon who have ideas of projects they would like to be involved in.
Kate is also involved in cross-generational projects like the Arts and Health initiative Devon REACH.
